Share your vision: How would you make your ‘neighborhood’ more sustainable?
Take Part in the Forum by simply writing or
drawing your vision of your neighborhood or the street you are living
in and attaching it to the present-future panel, plus also make a
reference to your location on the map.
All ideas will be presented to the regional councils!
The future forum space is for you to exhibit your future vision.
The forum will encourage you to:
Recognize and respect our past history
Reflect on current community’s sense of place
Allow for future visioning by individuals/groups
You are invited to participate in creating a vision for a sustainable
Cairns and Far North region. The Cairns and Far North Environment
Centre would like to invite you and/or your organisation to contribute
to a broader community-wide visioning process that would be displayed
at our ‘Future Forum’ at Envirofiesta on Aug 2 in Cairns.
In particular we would like you to provide any media for our Forum
including writing, painting, drawing, collage, video, writing, poetry,
song, performance or an installation.
The goal of the Forum is to address the following questions:
-
How would you make your neighbourhood more sustainable?
-
What is the community’s role and what could be your contribution for shaping the future of this region?
We would prefer you to work with a specific place, such as your
neighbourhood or town where your new ideas can take action.
To achieve and work towards concrete actions in the future, we are canvassing a range of possibilities, including:
-
Creating villages, where all services are walkable (work, school, shops, cultural activities, green spaces etc)
-
New transport strategies
-
Cities for living and working that provide food and forests
-
Connecting and acknowledging our natural environment
-
Keeping the historical fabric of a place alive with places
and buildings of different eras as well as significant natural and
cultural sites
-
Treating waste and water as valuable resources
-
Switching to renewable energy
-
Low or zero energy houses and buildings
The list is endless and your dreaming should be boundless.
As there will be only limited space to exhibit your work it should not
exceed one A4 format. Larger pieces should be discussed with Gabi
for approval. Entries must be delivered to CAFNEC by Thursday 31
July 5pm. We need to know in advance if you are planning to
contribute material – please email Gabi by July 20 regarding your
contribution (email below).
There will be a large mural size map of Cairns, scale 1:5000 and 1:20
000 of the region that will display individual’s comments about their
place. Any artwork of postcard size will be attached to it.
CAFNEC will summarise and present this information to the regional
councils as well as using the ideas to bring forward into our Regional
Sustainability campaign.
For any further information please contact
Gabi Bohnet for more information. Or Call CAFNEC on 07 4032 1746.
